Some Transition people may have heard of a documentary called "Collapse" that came out a few months ago. It's about a smart, peak- oil-aware, former LA cop and investigative reporter named Michael Ruppert who wants to get out the message about peak oil which, as you can guess, he thinks might trigger the collapse of industrial civilization.

You can see info and a trailer for the movie here:

and this review by Roger Ebert gives it four stars and talks about how it brought home the impact of peak oil: http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20091209/REVIEWS/912099993

This sounds like a total "doomer" movie (I haven't seen it yet myself), but if you need a bit of a wake-up call, you might want to check it out. It doesn't look like it's available on DVD yet but there are showings planned in Minneapolis for Feb. 5 and 6, with Ruppert himself possibly in attendance for Q&A. (Note: Feb. 5 is our next scheduled soup/supper/discussion, though!)

Interestingly, the "Learn More" section of the Collapse web site has 20 links -- two are for Transition UK and US, three are for the Post Carbon Institute and Richard Heinberg and James Kunstler, one is for Energy Bulletin, one is about permaculture, one is about urban homesteading. Hmm ... all the usual suspects.

I don't know if I'm going to the Mpls showing, but thought I'd mention it.

I have seen this movie and it was great, I got more out of it and liked it way better that the other movies I have seen on this subject. He gives the cold hard facts about it, no touchy freely stuff, no sugarcoating it with graphic and fancy charts, just the facts with him talking one on one with the camera.
